If you're not yet 18 years old, you need a work permit before you start working. You can get summer work permits from the LAUSD Work Experience office. Their number is (213) 241-0878. They are located on the 18th Floor of the LAUSD Beaudry Building (downtown at 3rd and Beaudry). You'll need to bring a photo ID, a copy of your birth certificate, and a work permit request form signed by your parent and your work supervisor!

You can also ask Mr.Ramos in room 304 for a work permit! Make sure you do this as soon as you receive a job offer!

Think about:

  • What hours you’re available (after school, weekends, summer)

  • How far you can travel (walk, bike, bus, drive)

2. Create a Resume

Even if it’s your first job, you can still create a great resume! Include:

  • Bring a copy of your resume, just in case

6. Follow Up

  • After an interview, say thank you in person or send a short email

  • If you haven’t heard back in a week or two, it’s okay to follow up and ask about the status

7. Start Strong!

Once you get the job:

  • Be on time, every time

  • Ask questions if you’re unsure

  • Show a positive attitude and a willingness to learn
